Quarrel

they sit lined along
the wall glaring; she
glares, his mind
wanders silently.

you could have called
she says
you should have called;
why didn’t you call?

her words: fire, reign
over his skin -his
breath fills the air
above his head. This once
hollow space is
empty within
itself

why do you run from me?
she cries, and then a whisper:

why do you run
(without me?)

she is unaware, she
is her emotion swallowed
by the numb air. the much too
cold truth. the nothing but existence
that she is -and she is lost
within it.

because i do.
i run from you, because i do.
it is how it is. i am no more
the sun last summer than i
i am the moon tonight. forgive
me
