Captured Moment

The sun beats down
with gentle kisses
on my face. I lay
on a soft cotton blanket,
which only exists to argue
with the dry grass
that insists on making
my skin itch.

The flowers are proud,
reaching up towards the sky;
Their scent is unfamiliar,
and the sun glares as regent
of the day. While my eyelids grow heavy,
I begin to dream of the music
the wind makes as is combs
through the trees.

I doze off and on
all through the humid

afternoon. My parents finally
wake me. A laughing stranger
takes our picture,
capturing the moment forever
in a 4×6 frame.
