When I look around my home, it is impossible not to see
Living environments unfit for the lowest vermin to be
When I look around my home, my heart cannot help but break
My people are living in the cruelest of nightmares,
And it is as though they will never awake.
Treated like animals and so animals we have become
With bitterness and ignorance proving hard to abstain from
When I look around my home, lacking in more ways than I can bare:
Lacking hope, lacking wealth, lacking strength, lacking love
But I pray—to my God above
I pray for Hope. That life can grant Wealth, rather than merely destitution and help us find the Strength to remember Love.
Dedicated to my Black people of the Mississippi Delta
